Essaouira is a charming city on the Atlantic coast approx 3 hours from Marrakech which is a UNESCO World Heritage listed city as an example of a late 18th century fortified town.
The city is full of culture with several art galleries all over the place and is home to many small arts and crafts businesses.
The peaceful harbour is protected against strong winds by a natural bay. The fishing harbour is quite small but remains one of the major fishing harbours of Morocco.
The climate in Essaouira is warm in the winter and cool in the summer making it a pleasurable place to visit on your day trip.
Down at the sea front, choose from an array of freshly caught fish and watched it being cooked for you.
Since the 16th century, Essaouira has also been known by its Portuguese name of Mogador and its Berber name means “The Wall” as a reference to the fortress walls that originally enclosed the city.
There is a wide sandy beach which extends from the harbour, in the South of Essaouira.
The Gnaoua Festival of music is held here in late June usually and brings together artists from all over the world. it is focused on Gnaoua music but also includes rock, jazz and reggae music.
